Magazine cover analysis 2
The masthead of the magazine has quite a
lot covered by the main image but this doesn’t but because it is a
well-established magazine and people will recognise it even if the whole of the
title isn’t there. The main cover line is written in black with a simple font
to help it stand out from the bright background while complementing striped
clothes of the main singer (Hayley Williams) from the band Paramore. All of the
content that is on the front cover is either black or white, this is due to the
colours of the clothes that the singer is wearing, and because too many colours
would be unnecessary as 40% of Spin magazine readers between the ages of 22-29,
so there isn’t the need to overload the cover with many colours, also the
magazine is for both lower class and higher class readers, because of this they
have put up the advert of the inline edition of the magazine as some people who
read the magazine will be able to afford the online version.
The layout of the page is very well done as the spaces where
the main image would have left blank are filled with text, and extra
information about other bands/musicians (in this case the digital edition of
the magazine and Ozzy Osborne). There is also a small section at the bottom
right corner of the page (where the barcode is usually placed) used to give
information about what is in the magazine. The only thing that the cover
doesn’t follow that most magazine cover do is the fact that there isn’t a
barcode in the front; this could be due to the fact that there wasn’t enough
space or that if they put it in the front it wouldn’t look very good when it
can be placed in the back cover.
